Play To Learn

Our annual Play to Learn sessions were held at school this week for the children joining the Rainbow and Sunshine Reception classes this September.
Karen and Jan have been running this event for a number of years and their expertise is impressive!
There are two sessions held on the day - a.m. for Rainbow and p.m. for Sunshine.
The sessions, which are really well organized and resourced, are enjoyed by everyone - "new" children, siblings, parents , grandparents, TA's and teachers.

The sessions begin with registration and the all important Name Tagging!
The Head Teacher pops in to greet everyone and then there is a little talk about how the session will run:
  • 30 minutes playing in the different areas with parents
  • Tidy up time - VERY important
  • Drinks and a biscuit on the patio - kindly served by TSA members
  • Visit in the classroom for story time with the wonderful classroom assistants (Thanks Sue and Lorna!
  • Karen or Jan give a short PowerPoint presentation to parents (I run the computer!).
The presentation highlights the importance and value of play and a description of the six areas of learning in the Foundation Stage:
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
